An interesting conclusion from anecdotal evidence was brought up in a conversation I was having with a fellow Medium writer. Barbara Finkelstein, who likes to write about workplace culture, made a statement that made me pause and blink.

“I found that once one of my posts was curated, it did worse than if I had just left it in the general population.”

I immediately thought that this couldn’t be true and began to reply with an opposite view point. About halfway through my reply I realized that I didn’t actually know, I was just assuming my viewpoint was true. So I stopped and looked around.

I’ve had three stories that I have submitted for inclusion into other people’s publications. I have my own publications and usually publish within them or in my area as stand alone stories.

Two of my stories certainly fit this criteria of less views. But they were early into my Medium career and I had less than 30 followers when I submitted these stories. They have, however, in the last 2 months, tripled their read amounts from what they had accumulated over an entire year. I attribute this to my follower…
